Privacy
Last updated 27 October 2026. Short version: your recordings are yours. We use them only to coach you, we never sell them, and we never use them to train AI models.
Who we are
Retake is operated by Loistava Holding UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Asternring 9, 15732 Schulzendorf, Germany (see the legal notice) — contact [email protected]. We are the controller of the personal data described here.
What we collect, and why
- Account: your name, email and password (stored hashed) — to give you an account. Legal basis: contract.
- Recordings: the audio (and, if you turn the camera on, video) of takes you record, a few still frames from video takes, the transcript, the measurements we derive (pace, fillers, pauses, pitch) and the coach's feedback — to coach you and show your progress. Legal basis: contract.
- Practice settings: your goal, role and time zone — to tailor prompts and count your streak correctly.
- Billing: handled by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer and subscription IDs and plan status; we never see or store your card number.
- Free tries without an account: a random ID in a cookie (so you can see your result and keep it if you sign up) and a salted hash of your IP address (to limit free tries). Tries are deleted after 30 days unless you create an account.
Analytics
Basic, cookieless reach measurement (always on): we count page views and unique visits with PostHog (EU-hosted) without storing anything on your device — no cookies, no local storage, no persistent identifier, no session recording. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); because nothing is stored on your device, § 25 TDDDG does not apply.
Persistent analytics (only if you click “Accept”): PostHog may then store an identifier in a cookie and local storage to recognise you across visits, connect your visits to your account and record anonymised sessions so we can improve the product. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time by deleting the “retake_consent” cookie, after which we ask again. If you click “Decline”, we stop analytics entirely.
Meeting mode
Meeting mode records only your own microphone, and only while voice activity is detected — silence is discarded in your browser before anything is uploaded. With headphones, other participants are not captured. You are responsible for using it only where recording your own voice is permitted.
Who processes it for us
- OpenAI — transcription, coaching analysis and voice playback. Data sent through OpenAI's API is not used to train their models.
- Stripe — payments.
- PostHog (EU Cloud) — product analytics, as described above.
- Hetzner Online (Germany) — servers, database and recordings.
- Cloudflare — content delivery and protection against attacks.
- Resend — transactional email such as password resets.
How long we keep it
Account data and recordings are kept until you delete them or your account. Anonymous tries are deleted after 30 days. Billing records are kept as long as tax law requires.
Your rights
You can download all your data (Settings → Download everything) and delete your account and every recording (Settings → Delete my account) yourself, at any time. You also have the right to rectification, restriction, objection and to complain to your data protection authority.
Cookies
Without your consent we use only strictly necessary cookies: your login session, for free tries the anonymous try ID, and the cookie that remembers your analytics choice. Analytics cookies are set only after you click “Accept”. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, ever.
